Once you have decided Shotokan Karate is for you (typically after a month) you will require an annual ESA licence which, costs £25; this provides insurance cover and eligibility to present your skills at a grading on your way to black belt, typically in 3-4 years, and beyond, plus access to ESA national courses.
Gradings - with international instructor Alan Armstrong 6th Dan - are typically held 3 times a year - provided you have trained hard enough!
